Road
The need for mobility in current society seems to be ever growing. At the same time we notice that the large infrastructure projects set-up to meet this need, often produce disappointing results in terms of costs (increases) and schedule (overruns); as well as stakeholder dissatisfaction. To overcome this conflict, management quality in the delivery of large infrastructure projects needs to improve. AT Osborne is actively participating in research initiatives investigating these matters, linking our experience in the field with theoretical approaches.

Bridging the gap between science and practice
AT Osborne is one of the key founders of the NETLIPSE initiative. Main objective of this EU co-financed programme is to have a positive influence on Europe's economy, wealth and sustainability by improving the successful development, delivery and operation of Large Infrastructure Projects (LIPs). We combined over forty years of experience managing these projects and shared this with research partners from universities, research institutes, project delivery organisations and private consultancy companies. By delivering best practices and lessons learned an important step towards further improving management of LIPs has been taken.
Furthermore, AT Osborne has been a member of Transumo, a Dutch platform of over 300 companies, governments and knowledge institutes that cooperate in the development of knowledge with regard to sustainable mobility. We have contributed in many research projects within Transumo, aimed at acquiring knowledge on setting the right incentives and creating the appropriate conditions for developing and implementing integrated solutions for Road Infrastructure. In the follow up of Transumo we hope to continue this.
Delivery of Infrastructure Projects
Based on our experience, we understand the complexity of developing infrastructure projects. We combine public and private interests. Our managers and advisors have taken projects from policy and planning to implementation and execution, taking value for money in the long term into account. We have successfully worked on the delivery of (tunnel) projects for road traffic (like the Westerschelde Tunnel), rail infrastructure (such as the Betuweroute project and the High Speed Line-South) and carried out studies for the feasibility and private financing of different road infrastructure projects. Our management expertise was used to set up project organisations responsible for the delivery, execution and maintenance of these projects. Currently we are actively involved in the delivery and execution of the North South Metro Line in Amsterdam, risk management of different highway projects and feasibility and planning studies for regional connections.
Our People
We strive to develop, maintain and disseminate our knowledge on the management and delivery of infrastructure. We integrate project management and process optimisation. Our managers and advisors co-authored books and publications on infrastructure delivery, have obtained PhD’s in project management and are working on ISO guidelines on project management. We provide training and classes relating to project management for clients and students. By supporting (PhD)-students and research initiatives we continue to be the link between practice and science.
