Environment
Involving the climate in investment strategies is a major challenge since return on investment is often wished for within ten years whilst measures to protect climate and environment often prolong that period. AT Osborne’s strategy is to make investments more worthwhile by taking climate change and the prevention of climate change into account. Our advice is based on in depth studies that we made on the subject of climate change and its consequences might temperature rise by (up to) 2°C. In these studies we take into consideration both society (people), the natural environment (planet) and the economy (profit). They result in various strategies for adaptation in cities, rural areas, and mixed regions.

Two major projects from AT Osborne are:
- Define an alternative for an economy whereof development and building are a large part
Development and building have been quite profitable during the past decades. Many buildings however will prove to be of no help to adapt to climate change. Too often they’re not adapted to social life either. How profitable are buildings when we might want to get rid of them within a short period? Better usage of what is already there and retrofit in order to adapt to climate change and social life can be a sustainable and economically sound solution. AT Osborne has developed a strategy to make existing areas more sustainable and at the same time interesting for investors.
- Modelling of various emissions (particulates, noise)
AT Osborne has been a leading partner in the National Air Quality Cooperation Programme (NSL), which aims to improve air quality in the Netherlands in the years to come and to achieve timely compliance with the limit values for PM10 and NO2. Regional climate modelling is at the basis of this programme. AT Osborne is one of the architects of the models. Application of the same models on noise is on our agenda, as is further research into interactions between climate and air pollution and into the impact of climate change on the natural environment and society.
