History

AT Osborne's roots lie in the Reconstruction period after the Second World War, as an expert with respect to cost control in the building sector.

There was plenty of building to be done in the Netherlands during the years following the Second World War. The costs of these projects regularly exceeded budgets by no insignificant amount. This not only led to dissatisfaction among the clients, but also quite a lot of negative publicity. No knowledge of cost control for the entire construction process was available in the Netherlands at the time. However, the UK did have that expertise with respect to construction costs. Cost Control was the area of expertise of so-called Quantity Surveyors, and Jack Osborne was one. Osborne came to the Dutch market in 1967, where he entered into a joint venture with Berenschot. Berenschot Osborne combined Berenschot’s organisation-oriented approach and Osborne’s pragmatic, practice-oriented approach. This laid the foundation for the distinctive position that AT Osborne holds even today: an office that connects plans and practice, from strategy development to project realisation.

This new cost management business turned out to be an enormous hit at the end of the 1960s. The expertise soon became a part of the full management package of building processes. In addition to cost control, it also quickly grew to include time control and quality control. The working area shifted to the broad field of housing and property.
Over time, more and more customers found their way to the company. Additionally, the demand for additional services grew. With this, the number of specialisms expanded, from Environment in the 80s to Infrastructure and Spatial Development in the 90s.

In 2003, Osborne separated from Berenschot and became an independent company under the Directors at the time, Afink and Taylor. This is why the new name became AT Osborne.
